Sometimes we create base terrains in external tools such as Maya, Houdini or other apps by kit basing meshes or height fields together. These height fields come from Satellite data bases or are authored by artists.
Workflow example :
We kit bash a large terrain using polygonal geometry in Maya, then we send all the geometry to Houdini where it be will converted into height fields and exported as a tiled terrain.
Later on, we import the tiles to Gaea for erosion and adding additional procedural details.
Gaea should be able to recognize the naming convention of the tiles or can be defined by the user. (tile number (x,y) suffix, custom naming convention etc...).
