    This is important in many pipelines, including VFX.

    Some render engines use extracted displacements at real world scale.  Floating point 32bit exr or tif

    so 0 is no displacement

    This has many benefits especially what you calculate is what you get workflow, where you know the values are absolute...not a 0 to 1 or -1 to 1 range that you needs to adjust by a multiplier
